Time to try new things!
I know have figured out that these runs that I am doing are becoming a large part of my weight loss success. It is also tough to find local runs to do, in trying to locate a 5K to do I came across this trail run. Now I have never done a trail run and I picture running through dirt and bushes and dodging tree branches and holes. I also imagined myself tripping and falling as I am not the most graceful person around. Lucky this trail run was none of that.
What was kind of cool when I was signing up for this was, it was the inaugural year for this run. It offered a 5K and a 5 miler, I chose the 5K. Easy to register and package pickup was at Peal Azuma in Del Mar and the staff there were super nice. I got talking to them and was sharing my journey and they were truly interested.
I was concerned about parking for this race but no worry needed as there was plenty of parking, and what was nice was it was right at the start line. The race went from the east side of the Hwy 5 to under the freeway and over to the fairgrounds. The course was flat and looked as though I could challenge myself a bit on running more of the race. I was excited to see what running a 5K was like without running with 32 extra pounds.
And Im off and honestly I felt pretty good running the first part. Now I did walk and I walked a good amount of the race, but I ran more of this race than I have any other run. It was fun and as I always the other runners were so nice. It was kind of cool when I finished one of the ladies from package pickup recognized me and rooted me on at the end. I normally run by myself and so this really meant something to me.
I also took a minute off my best time so as my niece Keli tells me – I set a PR! You know that’s runner talk, and I know because I run! See you in 2017 Coast to Crest
