USA USA USA, Semper Fortis
Every year this race rolls around and for the past 6 years I have run this one 5 of them. This is by far one of my favorite races, and I always look forward to it and sign up early. This year it did not disappoint, and I left with some great memories. This is the only run they do that you can actually run over the Coronado Bay Bridge and let me tell you the views from the top of that bridge are gorgeous!
One of my traditions with this race is I always run it with my sister Debi. Each year we see just how much red, white and blue we can wear or carry. Again we have done this together 5 times including 201 when my sister ran it with a cast on her arm, what a trooper. It is truly telling when you look at pictures from each year and that up until this year my weight was not going any where but up.
So as this race goes 2016 will go down as my favorite year for it. This was really the first time I could tell the difference in running after losing over 35 pounds. I was able to run further without stopping, I had way more energy and I it was just a more enjoyable race. This is always a very well organized race with an amazing after race party. You also get to listen to several military bands playing along the route with the one at the bottom of the bridge always being my favorite.
This is not generally a race that you are going to PR in or going to actually run safely as it is absolutely packed the whole way. The patriotic feeling is always overwhelming in this race with it being the Navy Run. Lots of military and their family running.
I always tell people that are thinking about doing a 5K, to do this one. Although it is a 4 mile run this one will get them hooked. The feeling that you have when you finish this race will keep you on the high for quite some time.
Coronado Bay Bridge Navy Run see you next year!!
