What a weekend!!
I just spent 24 hours with some awesome people. I have not done anything like this, so was not sure what to expect.
So what happened? We watched an amazing woman, a friend Shawn Gallagher walk 55 miles for those she has lost and those who are fighting cancer…and yes I did say 55 Miles!
The best part of this was she had no idea that she would have a posse there rooting her on and supporting her the whole way. John Hulsey, Runner #12 in the documentary From Fat To Finish Line sent out a request for any and all that could come out and support Shawn and there were so many that jumped in without hesitation. By Saturday Morning John and his husband Rik had our compound set up.
So once Shawn got over the shock, she went into Beast mode and it was going to be EPIC! That girl got going and she did not stop, and she did not stop for 30 miles. At 30 miles she stopped to change socks, eat and well you know what else. The she was back out onto the course, and she was unstoppable. People came and walked and supported her and they left and she kept walking. There was a group of us that stayed the whole time but even we slept for a couple of hours, and Shawn kept walking.
It really was a good time being there with these new friends and even the furry one…
As it got dark it had finally cooled off for Shawn as much as it could for someone who has been walking 12 hours straight.
Shawn is an absolute inspiration to me and every person there that watched her walk. I also laughed, walked, talked, walked, laughed, talked, and walked some more with Shawn. There was also Spencer a totally amazing guy from Utah visiting with Charlie, walked with Shawn in the wee hours of the morning. You know there is a special connection you get, when you walk with someone in these crazy hours in the morning. Then you have John and Collin, these two guys were really amazing, as you can tell by this pic they were not leaving this lady’s side.
The last laps that Shawn did were so great, we were all joking, singing and well what else would you do when you are finishing 55 miles, you film this crazy group for the We Believe it music video.
I made some great memories this weekend with some new friends for a great cause, life is good.
