When life gives you lemons, or leaves them laying around to trip you up.
So first off thanks so much for taking the time to read my posts, I really enjoy sharing each part of this journey. I am learning now that you have to be ready for anything when you are dealing life. So since January things have gone for the most part pretty smooth. I have been able to add more and more runs and have improved with each one. Then life happens!
So I have now learned that even as you are getting healthy and fit your body still has limitations. So I was not sure how I had injured my foot as I have been doing really well on my runs. I was visiting in Portland and on the last day I was able to get a 2 mile run done in the morning before flying out. Then got to airport and headed home to san Diego, only to be laid over in Oakland for 4 hours. So as any of us that wear a Fitbit do we walk and get steps in. But I think this is where things might have gone wrong. I walked for 16,000 steps and I was not wearing tennis shoes but Tom like shoes, I also had two backpacks on, not a recipe for healthy walking. By the time I got on plane my foot was bothering me in a way that I had not felt before.
Next day I find there is still some pain but not bad. I go to gym after work and do 3 miles on the treadmill and by the time I finished it was really hurting.
The next day I was due to do a bike/run. I got my 6.50 bike in with just a little pain. But when I tried to run I got about a half a mile in and had to stop. I ended up having to do it as a walk with very short intervals of running. I knew that this was something different I had not felt before so I decided that a visit to the doctor was warranted.
As you saw above it did not end that great. The doctor is saying a stress fracture but we are still waiting for the final results of the x-rays. My prescription ended up being the fancy fashionable boot and no running. This was so hard for me to except, no running, how can that be a cure, I mean running is a healthy activity. Its funny in the past this previous fat girl would have relished being told to take it easy, but this time it felt different. My goal keep the fat girl under wraps during this down time.
I had initially had a 10K this weekend but the promoter pulled the race so no loss there. I do have a race on August 28th, the End of Summer 4 Mile Run from La Jolla to Pacific Beach but it is is on hold and more than likely will not happen. My Duathlon in October is definitely questionable.
Now is the time to find alternate exercises that will not further damage my foot and promote the healing. I believe this will include biking, swimming and yoga. I will add a little meditation in to keep my sanity.
Today it was some swimming, going for the gold.
I am Never Giving UP!!!
