Duathlon right around the corner, LETS TRAIN!
So with the upcoming duathlon coming up in October I really need to some bike rides in. So my goal today was to go around Fiesta Island 3 times which pretty much is the distance of the bike portion of the duathlon. I show up and start getting ready and realize the wind is a bit more than I am used to riding in. I also notice there are very few bike rides out, should have been my first sign.
Wind or no wind I need to get my bike on today. I start off and that wind is really pushing me all over the place. Luckily there are not too many cars out so no fear at this time of being pushed into a car.
So as I ride I learn the really windy areas of the island. The north end is really the worst, was not only blowing me all over the place, but it was blowing the sand everywhere. Tip road bike tires are not that great in sand, I learned quickly how to recover when your tires slide int he sand.
I get to the west side and the wind again is pretty bad and this time it is blowing in my face. I adjust the gears but still feel like I am going nowhere. At least there is not a ton of vehicle or other bikes on the road. The reason, because I am kind of all over the place. Next this I know I am on my last trip around the island and I am learning the area that I can make up speed. Guess what I really like biking, who da thunk!
I finish the ride with my longest distance and well I guess my best time, but that is only until my next ride. I am actually starting to look forward to the duathlon in October. I know I will kick butt.
