30 Days to Rock and Roll Vegas Half
So now that I have 26 races done ranging from distances from 5K to a 15K I thought it was time to challenge myself. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & 1/2 is in November and I have been thinking about doing it. But every time I started to really look into it, I talk myself out of it. So after talking with a couple of friends of mine John who has the amazing blog Runner 12 and Colin who has lost over a 100 pounds and completed 6 Marathons, I know amazing guys and I love them. They also have run these distances often, and both felt I was ready for a half. So where better to do your second half ever but in Las Vegas.
Now as I said this will be my second Half Marathon as I did the San Francisco Half Marathon back in 2009. I signed up for it after a health scare with my weight and a trip to the ER. I did train the best I could for this with little knowledge of what I was doing. My weight had not jumped to the numbers that they had recently and in training I did lose but I was not ready for this race. I actually did it with my sister and my niece who were in way better shape than I was. It was amazing to be able to run across the Golden Gate bridge and funny thing that was the selling point for my sister. We finished the race with a net time of 3:33 and a gun time of 4:35. I will be honest not sure what that means but all I know is I have to do better than 3:33.
This was at the time the hardest thing I had ever done and I never thought I would actually finish the race. But as you can see I did.
So there is 30 days until the run and I am so excited. I am excited for a few reasons. First that I really want to see how I have improved with my running. Second, that I am going to be in amazing company with a bunch of runners from the community From Fat To Finish Line. Some locals will be there Colin who will be tackling the full marathon and Shawn who will be doing the half. I know also I will have the support of the more than 6000 members of this running and fitness minded community From Fat To Finish Line and that makes me happy. This will not be an official From Fat To Finish Line Run, but I will tell you there are going to be so many of us sporting our #FFTFL shirts.
Now to get my butt in gear and train as best as I can, as again I only have 30 days. I will get to Las Vegas on Thursday November 10th and will be there though November 14th. I mean if you are going to go to Vegas might as well make it a mini vacation.
I still have one thing I have not decided and that is whether to do the 5K the day before. Several will be doing that and they are such bad asses. I still need to see if there is a bad ass in me… TBD
So as always, see you at the finish line.
Hey, friend. You mentioned “gun time” and “net time.” That means that if a race starts at 6am, for example, the “gun time” starts then. Net Time starts tracking the moment YOU personally cross the start line. In a small event, the difference might be a few minutes. But in a major event like a Rock ‘n’ Roll, it might be an hour or more before you actually start your race.
